Josef Frank - Austria
House Beer
Wenzgasse 12, Vienna
1929

It was not by coincidence, that Josef Frank wrote the article "The house as a path and square" on the occassion
of the publication of this villa. In this article he wrote about criterias for routing and sense of scale which he considered
similarly valid for urbanism and architecture. Another concern of this article was to drop the dogmatic regularity,
which made no sense in the eyes of Josef Frank. The house develops a free sequence of interior spaces in a
distanced dependence to the "Raumplan" by Adolf Loos. Today the ingenious interior of the building is
severely disrupted by changements of recent date. On the exterior the closed street facade contrasts with
the garden facede with numerous balconys and terraces.
