Oscar Niemeyer - Brasil
Office Building L`Humanité
Rue de Strasbourg, Rue Jean Jaurès, Saint Denis, Paris
1987

The suburb of St. Denis is located in the north of Paris, and was included in the Mitterrand government programm "banlieu 89" for estructuring the city's outskirts.
In this district, which is rich in history, the newspaper L'Humanité invited Oscar Niemeyer to design and construct its new headquarters.
The building is situated on a relatively small triangular plot at the junction of two streets in immediate neighbourhood of the 7th century basilica of the kins of France.
The area is completely built up with a variety of different architectures, and the building regulations limited the height and required the facade to be torned to face the basilica.
The project of Oscar Niemeyer is of a great simplicity and is defined more by its image than its structure. The building is felicitously integrated into its surroundings.
Nevertheless, the building manages to stand out within its context, establishing a contrast between its entirely glazed undulating facade and the old church, which in is
partially reflected in the glass curtain wall, evidencing two eras and two technologies. Unfortunately, this building is now neglected and in poor condition.
