Zaha Hadid - United Kingdom
Apartment Building Spittelau
Spittelauer Lände - Vienna
1994

When Zaha Hadid realised the seemengly levitating apartment building Spittelau in front of the landmark listed
arches of Otto Wagners metropolitan railway lines in the year 1994, the Vienna architectural scene as well as the
politics for dwelling were excited. The building site between the danube channel and a speedway is unsuitable for
residential use. For this reason the famous british architect Zaha Hadid was called to transform the inhospitable place
with its imaginative architecture. Today the project is questioned even by benevolent critics. The building itself remains
as a landmark of ealry deconstructivism.
