Renzo Piano, born in Genoa 14th September 1937, is an Italian architect and engineer, who was educated and subsequently taught at the Politecnico di Milano.
He graduated from the University in 1964 and began working with experimental lightweight structures and basic shelters. In 1998 Piano was awarded the Pritzker Prize.
In August 2013 he was appointed Senator for Life in the Italian Senate by President Giorgio Napolitano because of his "outstanding cultural achievements".
After collaborating with other architect, Renzo Piano joined forces with Richard Rogers. From 1971 to 1977 the two architects worked together under the Piano & Rogers brand.
The Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris is by far the most famous building, which was created by Piano & Rogers. The Centre Georges Pompidou is considered as one of
revolutionary buildings of recent times. The New York Times even declared that this design "turned the architecture world upside down".
Another long time collaboration was established with the engineer Peter Rice. They worked together between 1977 and 1981 in L'Atelier Piano and Rice.
The Renzo Piano Building Workshop, which maintains offices in Paris, Genoa, and New York City, was founded in 1981. The Renzo Piano Building Workshop became famous
for various buildings, espescially for museum desings. Europe's tallest skyscraper, the The Shard in London is another famous building by Piano, which was opened in 2012.
