Christ & Gantenbein - Switzerland
Landesmuseum
Museumstrasse 2, Zürich
2001 - 2016

The architectural competition for the renovation of the 100 year old Swiss National Museum was won by Christ & Gantenbein architects in 2001. This total renovation is one of the largest civil construction project of the federal adminstration. The museum is an important attraction for tourists and corporate travelers. The composition of the historic building and the new addition creates a contrast between a new contemporary architecture and the gothic revival style. The historic building made mainly of natural stone is connected to the expressively shaped volume made of exposed concrete. The renovation of the existing building and the extension create an attractive and contemporary museum.
