Temple de Châtelaine

The
architectural firm of André
Gaillard and Francis Gaillard won the competition for
the Temple de Châtelaine, but they were only able to realise
the building project in part. The symmetrically organised part
of the community centre was not realised. The Temple de
Châtelaine is located at the intersection of Avenue du Pailly
and Avenue de Châtelaine. A bell tower marks the entrance. An
expressively folded roof of reinforced concrete, natural stone
walls and large-scale glazing characterise the exterior
appearance. The folded roof, only 8 cm thick, is supported by
slender steel columns and is consistently detached from the
façade walls. The main volume creates an introverted
atmosphere through the closed terrace at the back, and yet
shines outwards.
Das
Architekturbüro von André
Gaillard und Francis Gaillard konnte den Wettbewerb für
den Temple de Châtelaine gewinnen, allerdings konnten sie das
Bauvorhaben nur teilweise realisieren. Nicht realisiert wurde
der symmetrisch organisierte Teil des Gemeindehauses. Der
Temple de Châtelaine befindet sich an der Strassenkreuzung der
Avenue du Pailly und der Avenue de Châtelaine. Ein Glockenturm
markiert den Zugang. Ein expressiv gefaltetes Dach aus
Stahlbeton, Natursteinmauern und grossflächige Verglasungen
prägen die äussere Erscheinung. Das nur 8 cm dicke Faltdach
wird von schlanken Stahlstützen getragen, und ist konsequent
von den Fassadenwänden losgelöst. Das Hauptvolumen schafft
durch die geschlossene Terrasse auf der Rückseite eine
introvertierte Atmosphäre, und leuchtet trotzdem nach Aussen.
