In 2016, Peter Zumthor completed his new studio in Haldenstein. The building is located in the immediate vicinity of the two earlier buildings that he built for himself. This newest building is located on the opposite side of the alleyway, and is slightly set back from it. The studio takes the place of a former large barn. From this predecessor building is still existing the former outer wall, which still works as a retaining wall. The new studio is basically detached from this wall and slightly distanced from it. Only at one point the new building and the rubble wall come into contact, where the volume of the vertical circulation penetrates the glass skin. On the one hand, this layout of the building emphasizes the independence of the volume, on the other hand it creates a close relationship to the rubble wall and the steep terrain behind it. The structure of the four-storey glasshouse consists of two independent and differentiated constructions. The main structure is on the inside and consists of a simple and strong concrete structure with cantilevered flat ceilings. The ceiling edges are stabilized by an additional ring of concrete, also used as a bench. The building envelope consists of a wooden structure, which carries all elements of the facade. Only in the rear area of ​building, this shell is penetrated by the volume of the vertical circulation, as the staircase and elevator are pushed out of the narrow rectangle of the floor plan. The ground floor can be opened to the forecourt via generously sized double doors. This area is also protected by a canopy which is slightly detached from the facade. A textile sunscreen protects the heavily glazed interior. The cable guides for the sunscreen are continuously guided over three floors and attached to filigree swords made of chrome steel. The building is covered by a detached roof made of corrugated iron. In its filigree appearance, this roof is reminiscent of that of the neighboring, almost 15 years older residential studio building. Although the building, as a glass house, can clearly be assigned to modern times, it never acts as a foreign body and is extremely carefully integrated into the existing edification. The interior is characterized above all by the exquisite choice of materials and simple restraint.

Im Jahr 2016 konnte Peter Zumthor sein neues Atelier in Haldenstein fertigstellen. Das Gebäude befindet sich in unmittelbarer Nähe der beiden früheren Bauten, die er für sich errichtet hat. Dieses neueste Gebäude befindet sich auf der gegenüberliegenden Seite der Dorfgasse, und ist von dieser leicht zurückversetzt. Das Atelier nimmt den Platz einer ehemaligen grossen Stallscheune ein. Von diesem Vorgängerbau besteht weiterhin die ehemalige Aussenwand, welche nach wie vor als Stützmauer funktioniert. Das neue Atelier ist grundsätzlich von dieser Mauer losgelöst und leicht von ihr abgerückt. Lediglich an einer Stelle kommen das neue Gebäude mit der vertikalen Erschliessung und die Bruchsteinmauer in Kontakt. Dies Anordnung des Gebäudes betont einerseits die Selbständigkeit des Volumens, erzeugt aber andererseits einen enge Beziehung zur Bruchsteinmauer und dem dahinter ansteigenden Gelände. Das Tragwerk des viergeschossigen Glashauses besteht aus zwei unabhängigen und differenzierten Konstruktionen. Das Haupttragwerk liegt im Inneren und besteht aus einer einfachen und kräftigen Betonstruktur mit auskragenden Flachdecken. Dabei werden die Deckenränder durch Aufbordungen stabilisiert. Rund um das Gebäude legt sich eine Holzstruktur, welche alle Elemente der Fassade trägt. Lediglich im rückwärtigen Bereich wird diese Hülle durch die vertikale Erschliessung durchstossen, da Treppe und Aufzug aus dem schmalen Rechteck des Grundrisses geschoben sind. Das Erdgeschoss lässt sich über grossezügige Flügeltüren zum Vorplatz öffnen. Dieser Bereich wird zudem durch ein von der Fassade leicht abgelöstes Vordach geschützt. Ein textiler Sonnenschutz schützt den stark verglasten Innenraum. Die Seilführungen für den Sonnenschutz sind durchgehend über drei Stockwerke geführt und jeweils an filigranen Schwertern aus Chromstahl befestigt. Das Gebäude wird durch ein losgelöstes Dach aus Wellblech eingedeckt. In seiner filigranen Erscheinung erinnert dieses Dach an jenes des benachbarten, knapp 15 Jahre älteren Wohn-Atelier Gebäudes. Obwohl sich das Gebäude als Glashaus eindeutig der neueren Zeit zuordnen lässt, wirkt es nie als Fremdkörper und ist äusserst sorgfältig in die bestehende Bebauung integriert. Der Innenraum wird vor allem durch die erlesene Materialwahl und schlichte Zurückhaltung geprägt.
