Burkhard Meyer - Switzerland
Apartment and Commercial Building
Bahnhofstrasse 36 - 42, Baden
1981 - 1984

This apartment and commercial building near the railway station Baden is designed by the local architects Burkhard Meyer.
The outstanding characteristic of this early example of a coherent central developmant is its unity and consistency in terms of form and material
The large clinker clad volume is arranged in five clear sections, rather like the composition of a train, which combine public and privet space in horizontal layers.
On the ground floor are located the arcades with shops, while above them are to be found the apartments. The pedestrian paths, ramps and steps add elements
of an urban atmosphere to the complex. The street façade clearly shows the curved roof section in form of a quarter of a barrel. In contrast, the opposite
façade shows a row of clear cut cubic volumes.
