Staufer Hasler - Switzerland
Administration and Media Building
Masanserstrasse 2, Chur
2002 - 2005

In 2002 the architectural office Staufer Hasler won the competition for the so-called townhouse Chur with their proposal, which is characterized largely by its urbanistic attitude.
The building was realized soon after the competition in the years 2004-2005. The construction creates a balance between building mass and public space. The retreat from
the building line opens the road space towards the city theatre and at the same time strengthens the front of the historic city. The façade of the building is designed as a monolithic
construction of situ concrete. Its appearance is the static image of the optimized Virendeel beam construction, bridging the open ground floor. This allows views into
the reception area of the townhouse and into the open production area of the media centre (SRG SSR RTR). The exposed concrete facade of the building has been sandblasted,
emphasizing the tactile qualities of the material. Large bottom hung windows are repeated all over the main elevations.
