1993

The Yokohama Landmark Tower, designed by Hugh Stubbins, still belongs to the tallest structures in Japan.
When the tower was finished in 1993 it was the tallest building in Japan with a height of 296.3 m.
This record was only surpassed by the Abeno Harukas building in 2012. At the time of the opening, the Landmark Tower featured the highest oberservation deck in Japan.
This Observatory is located on the 69th floor and is called Sky Garden. On clear days it is not only possible to enjoy the 360-degree view of the city, but also views to the famous Mount Fuji.

The building, wich is located in the Minato Mirai 21 district of Yokohoma, contains a five star hotel, rental offices, the five-story Landmark Plaza Mall and the mentioned observation deck.
The hotel with its total 603 rooms is occupies the floors 49-70. When inaugurated, the building contained some of the fastest elevators, which allowed to reach the 69th floor in approximately 40s.

The construction of the building allows it to withstand lateral forces of wind pressure higher than that produced by the strongest earthquake.
